Today was about styles, and I'm not talking about those dodgy lobbygobbler hairstyles either, but styles of play and structures that are coached. The Lobby's were niggly, in that they were strong one up runners, and moved across the line in defence in mass, with prob 3/4 tacklers diving in each tackle. They had what the Aussies call a bit of mongrel in em, probably coz they were from North of the Lancs (wildlings). Whereas the Soap seem to play differently, less one up, more attempted distribution across the line and less lateral movement on the D line.
However, against a solid defence, it can seem a little slow to start or lack penetration. But what showed as the game wore on was that with a good mix of offloads, line running and some excellent breaks then the scores will come, and even though the Bears were in the game all the way Soap were through the line too many times for them to be in contention.
The highlights for me were Chazzas face when he was 10m out, he had run 30m and no one was stopping him! Lewis hugged the line again to bag another this week and then it was the tale of the two Josh's.
This season has seen Mr Consistecy either bag top tackler or get a rucksack full of tries, well this week he got both! 17 tackles and 4 tries, two came off lovely handoffs and two took strength to bust through. Simply lovely bloody good stuff.
Then it was the other Josh, one came off a lovely step in midfield, another came off the back of a brilliant run off Regan and what about the one where he wasn't sure how far he had run and didn't know where to ground the ball! Awesome stuff and he is really hitting his straps towards the backend of the season!
94 one on ones today, but so many more multiple tackles. A few of the Leigh East boys would have scored if it wasn't for excellent scrambling defence and some brilliant chasing back.
For me, the boys have come on so much, and once we iron out our attacking plays and the drop off passes stick then the speed of the play with stretch teams all over the park.
So we are on countdown now, with two games to go before we all get our weekends back! Just hope that doesn't mean more Mums nights out eh girls loll lol
