The soap welcomed high flying Wigan St Judes on a lovely summers day, this amateur club is a production line for talented players who have gone on to play at the highest level of professional rugby league. Crosfields were again low on numbers, missing the entire front row but were given a boost with George making his debut!
The soap started slowly as St Jude’s won possession from their own kick start, however, a solid opening defensive display set the tone for the rest of the game. There were few line breaks as both defences were on top in the early exchanges, it was L-Bomb who opened the scoring with a great jinking run, George kicked the conversion. Soaps defence was on fire and Jude’s defence was terrified as George received the ball out wide and finished superbly to stretch the lead, Joe added the extras. The Cobras maintained this lead through to HT as the team defended superbly to keep the opposition out.
The second half started in a similar fashion to how the first half ended with the team working extremely hard in defence, the Soap were moving the ball well and a great ball by Acko sent Charlie down the line before he was held short. Ollie capitalised a couple of plays later showing good speed as he darted in for a try his defensive efforts deserved, Ollie converted his own try. Lewis was finding gaps where others could not and another jinking run and an unselfish pass to Ollie who supported superbly should have resulted in another score. The team was defending expertly with every boy putting in a great shift, Spencer who was at the heart of that produced a fantastic break from his own half in the closing stages. A quick play the ball allowed Joe to scoot and put George in for his second try of an outstanding debut performance, Acko kicked the conversion as the ref’s whistle blew the Soap had recorded their second clean sheet of the season with a 24-0 victory.
