The soap had Morris, Mulqueeny, Todd, Rudd & Burrows all make their debuts in a Crosfields shirt in a tough opening encounter with Wigan St Judes that could have gone either way right upto the last minute.
St Judes got things underway with a kick-off which Crosfields fumbled giving Judes great field position on their line, a passing movement left to right beat our winger and Judes got an early score on the board, the conversion was missed.
For the remainder of the half, both teams attacked and defended with aplomb and pretty much cancelled each other out.
The second half started as the first had ended with both teams trying to break down very stubborn defences, it took an interception from Spencer Buller to break the deadlock and swing the tie in Soaps favour.
Intercepting the ball on his own 20-meter line Buller was off marauding down the park as Jude's full-back scrambled across and gave chase, he caught spencer on the halfway line but Lbomb had pushed in support and Buller was able to offload the ball for Lewis to catch at full tilt around his ankles to sprint away down the park and score. It was only right after Buller had been given some Oxygen that he was given the chance to convert which he slotted over with ease.
The game continued in a similar fashion however with about 4 minutes to go a good set by Judes saw them kick across the field which was fumbled and then cleared by the soap however it resulted in a play the ball 10 meters out from soaps line and Judes were able to crash over striking the decisive blow this time.
The game ended with Judes winning 10 v 6 and avenging their 24 v 0 loss only a few weeks earlier.
The choice not to shy away from playing the whole squad available to Crosfields and giving a number of players their debut in such a tough contest only bodes well for the future when bigger squads are required to cope with the rigours of 13 aside competitive rugby. The town hall clock isn't won today!
George Rothwell had an outstanding game-winning Player of the day, Opposition Player of the Day and Top tackler whilst both Spencer Buller and Lewis Spencer were awarded the coaches award for their contribution to an outstanding try.
