A last play Joe Harding try salvaged a draw for the Vipers in a thouroghly entertaining game at Hood Lane after it looked like it would end in defeat for the Soap youngsters.
It started well for the home side scoring early tries against their St Helens counter parts but after holding them out for 22 consecutive tackles, the opposition attack finally got on the board. The game was tit for tat as it progressed and a draw a fair result for two well disciplined teams.
Jacob Allcock led the Vipers attack with some superb direct carries allowing Henry Briscoe and Mitch Ireland to cross for the early tries.
In defence Haughton, Penny and Hill put into practice the hard work they have been doing at training with some crunching tackles on the swords ball carriers.
George Rothwell, Tackle champ for the day, came up with crucial tackles and two well taken tries as it looked like Thatto would pull away but with Mills and Holt picking up from where Allcock left off the home side showed great resilience.
The most pleasing aspects from the game were the attitude and team spirit shown by the youngsters after the home referee controversially disallowed what seemed a ligitimate Henry Briscoe try which would have completed his hat trick. The response to knuckle down and work even harder was great to see and composure to throw the ball around in search of the equalising try which inevitably came with the final play from Harding got the Vipers the draw they deserved.
