Strong Leigh Miners team will take some stopping

The Vipers run of consecutive wins came to an end on Sunday against a very strong and well organised Leigh Miners team that will take some stopping this year.

The boys can be proud of their efforts and achievement though, matching their hosts for the opening 3 periods before the home team cut loose in the final quarter with injuries to Kian and James not helping matters.

Kian had been particularly exciting scoring a hat-trick of tries as he continues to display strong running and scoring form before an ankle injury meant he had to sit out the last few minutes of the game. James who has picked up some form of award each week this season has been in great form also had to leave the field after struggling with an injury picked up in training.

The boys dug deep though and showed a lot of character and determination in defence going in at half time 4 tries to 3 down with Kian, Jake and Josh all scoring before half time.

The second half opened up a bit more as strong running from both teams saw more tries with the 3rd period seeing the home team giving themselves a two try cushion at 8 - 6 as Kian got his second for the Vipers and Max added a couple of tries to complement his sterling defensive work.

The final quarter was more one sided as the injuries stacked up but determined defence restricted Leigh to four tries to 1 Kian effort to finish 12-7 to Leigh in a great game that was a credit to all involved. Spencer Lowe and Kian Fahey were excellent in attack today, breaking tackles and running with determination. Spencer was awarded the coaches award and Kian the man of the match. Jake Rice tackled brilliantly and picked up this week's top tackler award - but this was a demonstration of just how far this team has progressed against a very good side. Well done boys you did yourselves proud!!
