Crosfields U8's Vipers outstanding performance

On a bright sunny day in Haydock the Vipers stayed strong and took the victory by the tightest of margins in an end to end game where no defence was on top! Tries were scored in abundance by both sides with Crosfields superior organisation, desire and willingness to work for their team mates the difference.
With Haydock having two players leave the field and starting with one less the Crosfields boys even worked hard and played with the utmost respect for the opposition.
2 new starters joined the ranks of the Soap and had brilliant debuts. Finlay Hill and Rhys Meeham settled in well and tried their hardest with Rhys getting the man of the match and even scoring against the boys when filling in for Haydock – you will need to cut that out Rhys!
The game finished 16 tries to 15 with half of those tries scored by Kian who’s pace and power caused Haydock problems all game. To score 8 tries is a fantastic effort and every one of them was excellent. The 1st came on the first play of the game, barging through the middle of the Haydock defence. The tale of this game was for every try the visitors scored the home team would peg one back – without ever going in front. And so it began as with the ball in hand for the first time Haydock crossed in the corner as one of the players to later leave the field went on a barnstorming run to score.
James then got the first of his hat trick using great footwork to outfox the defence before going on an arcing run to the corner to score. Again, Haydock hit back before Jake went on a strong run through the middle to score. Haydock again levelled. Noah was having a great game with some superb runs creating havoc in the home defence and it was a great run and offload by Noah that led to Kian’s second try of the game. Crucially the boys kept the home side at bay on the next set of six and went up the other end to extend their lead to two tries through Josh scoring another cracking try following good handling and willingness to offload. On the stroke of the end of the first period Haydock again pulled one back.
The second period was much the same, try for try and it was Haydock first out of the blocks to level the scoring before 3 Kian crackers sandwiched the Haydock scores. First was a strong run through the middle, next was good team play and the third Kian try of the period followed a brilliant offload by William that gave the Kian the space to use his pace and power to outstrip the defence. In between all these scores Haydock kept chipping away and scoring. Annoyingly! Noah finished the scoring before half time with a sensational run! The scores at half time, Haydock 8 Vipers 9
Kian again was the go to man and opened the scoring with yet another brilliant run to the line followed by a Haydock score. The next set of six saw good interplay with the boys trying to play passing rugby that has come on leaps and bounds. It was one such move that saw James pick up an off load and make no mistake scoring for his second of the day. Spencer then got the try his hard work deserved scoring wide following another strong run. James was next on the mark completing his hat trick with a near full length beauty out pacing the opposition in a great run to the line. The next try for Haydock was a cracker and it was scored by our very own debutant Rhys!
Crosfields went in to the final quarter two in front and saw Haydock peg them back with a try from the big number 3 who worked hard all game. Ryan got on the scoresheet after a good break by Jake. A nice run and offload by Josh saw Kian cross for his 7th before a scintillating run from deep in his own half saw him cross for his 8th try of the game and wrap up the scoring to finish victors 16 tries to 15!
There were tears, tantrums and tempers for the home team to deal with today, showing their inexperience and newness to the game. The Crosfields boys however, showed their composure and demonstrated how far they have progressed by playing – and enjoying – a superb game of rugby in fabulous conditions! Well done boys and well done to the Man of the Match Rhys on debut with special mention also to Finlay playing for the first team and not looking out of place. The top tackler today was Ryan James with Noah Dutton getting the coaches award with Thomas captain.
