Great effort against a tough Leigh team

Crosfields Under 8 Viper squad can all be proud of their efforts today against a team who this time last year were streets ahead of the Crosfields boys.

Right from the first whistle the determination was there for all to see with the super Jake crossing for two well worked tries in an opening 4 minute spell that bamboozled their shocked visitors. They regrouped and through strong running managed to breach the Vipers defence for their first of the afternoon after 5 minutes.

The home team were on fire and Maximus got the first of his two tries to restore the two try lead after 7 minutes with a very powerful burst. Leigh East were starting to get in to their stride and pegged one back before Try Machine Kian got the first of his hat trick after 9 minutes. In the spirit of fun and fairness the visitors were given another chance with the ball and made it pay scoring after 11 minutes of play to close the first period just 1 try behind.

A stern talking to by the Leigh East coaching staff seemed to do the trick in the second period as they defended supremely well keeping the eager Crosfields boys at bay while scoring three tries themselves taking a 6-4 lead in to the second half of the game.

The second half started the same as the first, with the Crosfields boys on the march - with Ryan scoring a try that his strong running all day deserved. Maximus showed some punishing defense in this half with some awesome tackling that deservedly earned him the top tackler of the match today. However the Leigh East boys were enjoying a lot of possession and managed to score two more tries to go in to the final period 3 tries up.

The final quarter was evenly matched as both teams scored 3 times each with Kian getting two and Maximus one - ending a very competitive game that the boys can be proud of. This was a performance that showed just how much they have progressed with some great defence, powerful running and the ever improving passing that every boy is buying in to.

Man of the match today was Kian with James getting the coaches award for great team effort and commitment and Maximus taking the tackling award for some uncompromising and brutal defence! Well done one and all!!
