We are delighted once again to hold the largest sporting event in the amateur rugby league calendar

The event has grown beyond recognition and every year I am amazed at the sheer number of people who come along. Long may it continue!
- Tony Parker, Club Secretary

Starting out as a charity match to raise money in memory of former Soap star Private Tom Sephton its hard to believe the enormity of the event 10 years on. It is now the biggest amateur rugby league event in Britain attracting massive crowds!

The Tom Sephton Memorial Trophy takes place tomorrow, the same day as Armed Forces Day, with three games for families to look forward to. The weather is set fair for what promises to be an even bigger and better event than last year! There will be, as usual lots for everyone to enjoy with the now famous Master's BBQ a firm favourite!

The event has been held every year at The Webb Security Rec on Hood Lane to raise money for armed forces charities in memory of the Great Sankey soldier who was sadly killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2010.

The free day out starts with a junior rugby curtain raiser at 10.30am with Crosfields Under 11s taking on Rylands Sharks Under 11s for the Hilary Steel MBE Memorial Plate.

Game 1 then kicks off at 11.30am with a rematch from 2018 as the Royal Marines Rugby League take on Army Rugby League Academy for the honour of lifting the 'Birdsall Bowl'.

Kicking off at 1.30pm sees the return of the local infantry rugby league derby.

The ‘Coleridge Cup’ clash of the titans between the Mercian Regiment and Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment returns with the two regiments which recruit their soldiers from Warrington going head to head.

Game 3 and the main event of the Armed Forces Day and the Tom Sephton Trophy Festival Kicks off at 3.30pm with Crosfields ARLFC SELECT XIII taking on the Army Rugby League Senior XIII.

In a fiery game, Last year saw the Army lift the trophy for the first time since 2010 scoring in the dying seconds of the game to pip Soap … by just 22 points to 20.

The free festival also includes inflatable obstacle courses, paintball and airsoft rifle ranges, fairground rides and stalls, face painting, LazerQuest, zorbs and military vehicles on display. There are four bars open and we would like to thank in advance our amazing volunteers who make this day go as successfully as always!!
