Crosfield Cobras 40:18 Culcheth Eagles
HT 18-6
TRIES: Regan, Spencer, Lewis (3), Ollie, Dan
CONS: Charlie, Lewis, Finn, Spencer, Dan, Joe
The Soap had their first-midweek game after the summer break and played their cross-town rivals Culcheth Eagles. Culcheth were one of the eighth founder members of Warrington and District Amateur Rugby Football League following the end of WWII and this Eagles 10s team had managed to hold the Cobras to a 30 all draw in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season.
It was a cagey opening from both Warrington teams as they felt each other out in the early exchanges. The opening try came from a Culcheth attack with Regan producing a full length of the field try after gathering a kick on his own line, Charlie made it 6.0 with the kick. A great passing move resulted in Spencer doubling the lead with a fine try, Lewis made no mistake with the conversion. Some of the rugby played was outstanding and testimony to the hard work they had put in on the training pitch over the summer. Another fine move and another sensational try from Lewis stretched the lead further, Finn added the extras. With HT fast approaching McKenzie was unlucky to have a try disallowed after a smashing run. The Cobras defence was solid with Ollie, Max, Spencer and Regan leading the way, however, our defence was finally breached with the last play of the half as the Soap went in with an 18-6 lead.
The Soap had a perfect start to the second half, Ollie getting the try his first-half performance deserved, Spencer stretched the lead with the conversion. Bailey then ran a great lead which helped create the space for Lewis to get his second of the game. The Eagles continued to come forward and it took a great try line tackle from Will to prevent a certain try, however, a great cross-field kick into space and the score was now 28-12 with 10 minutes to play. The soap continued to put on some great moves with the ball in hand, Daniel’s ‘Go Go Gadget Arm’ stretched out for a fine finish and Dan converted his own try. The Eagles managed to pull another try back before Man Of The Match Lewis completed a fine hat trick just before full time, Joe kicked the conversion as the final whistle gave an emphatic 40-18 victory to Crosfields.
