Wigan Bulldogs seen off by depleted Alliance Squad

With 12 players unavailable through call ups to the first team, work or injury in years gone by the Alliance team at Crosfields probably wouldn't have been in a position to fulfill a fixture. This is not the case in 2017 as there are players in abundance available for the coaching staff to pick from.

On the back of an excellent win last week the home team were determined to back this up with another strong performance but got off to the worst possible start as within 6 minutes, following back to back penalties the visitors registered what would be their first and only try of the afternoon as this seemed to spark the young soap in to action. With 8 minutes on the clock, centre Bailey Hartley - another product of the excellent junior section at Crosfields - ran a great angled line to score a Sam Hickey converted try. The home team never looked back and more homegrown juniors were involved 7 minutes later as Jordan Williams made inroads deep into Wigan territory laying a platform for full back Alex Clutterbuck to score under the sticks to the delight of the home supporters. Hickey adds the extras to go in at half time 12-6 up.

The scond half carried on in much the same vein with concerted pressure leading to an Alex Charnock try on 43 minutes. The conversion was missed and it became a tight tense affair for the next 25 minutes until man of the match Ben Stevens - another product of the junior section - waltzed through the Wigan line to score after clever set up play and highly organised shape. Sam Hickey added the extras to kill the game as a contest.

Nathan Hamilton is having a resurgence at the Soap and enjoying his rugby again after some time out and it was his excellent break on 71 minutes that led to Sam Hickey supporting well and scoring and converting his own try to wrap up the game with a 28-6 win.

This was another strong win against a far more experienced side and sees the soap rising up the embryonic table. Best for soap were Steves, Clutterbuck and captain Walsh

Next week the A team are at away to Chester Gladiators - kick Off 2:30pm
