Soap with the Sting in the tail to tame the Scorpians

Crosfields Alliance team moved into 3rd place with a highly impressive 9 try demolition in sunny Blackpool on Saturday.

With a full squad to select from again, Ian Boden kept faith with the majority of players who have been in fine form - giving debuts to Josh Whitman and Joe Battensby, with Whitman on hand to register a brace of tries.

The visitors got away to the ideal start with 3 tries in the opening ten minutes. Scrum half, Ryan Connolly intercepted and fed centre Tom Sutherland to open the scoring after five minutes, quickly followed up 2 minutes later as great interplay spread the ball wide for Whitman to open his account for the day. Danny Lee showed a quick fleet of foot from the play the ball to break and feed the supporting Jack Williams for a 14-0 lead after 9 minutes to cap off an opening spell of superb rugby.

The confident Soap men were made to wait a full 10 minutes before troubling the scorers again. Whitman crossed for his second with the ball quickly shifted wide from a scrum to practically end the game as a contest.

The hosts were struggling to contain Crosfields and a great set play led to Jack Williams crossing for his second just before half time. The only blot on an almost perfect half came right on the stroke of halftime as Blackpool crashed through some poor defence to take some solace in a highly one sided contest.

The home side showed more resolute defence in the opening exchanges of the second period quelling the rampant visitors attacking enthusiasm for a full 15 minutes. The second stanza stalemate was shattered though when more good work from Williams saw him find Jordan Williams for a try to put the game beyond and doubt at 32-6.

The resulting kick off was poor however and the hosts waltzed back down the pitch to register another score against the run of play. This was the last time they would trouble the scorers, as further tries from full back Alex Clutterbuck, Nathan Hamilton and a wonder score from prop Matty Thomason from 40 metres out capped a fine performance on the road.

The Soap moved to third place in the league bouncing back from their last outing against leaders Burtonwood. Best for the Soap were mom Lee, Matty Thomason and Elliot Bridge. There is a free week next week. Next game at home to fourth placed Eccleston Lions 20th May 2:30pm KO
